This agreement applies to every translation made on OneNation, between the writer of the original article, the translator and OneNation. It completes our Terms of use.
1. Who can translate
- Translators must have an approved translator profile and list the target language on their profile.
- Translators cannot translate their own articles.
- To keep work moving, each translator can hold a limited number of active tasks at a time.
2. Volunteer translation (task queue)
- When an article is accepted, a task is opened for each target language chosen by the writer. Tasks are ordered by priority.
- Claim: claiming a task reserves it for one translator until its deadline (72 hours by default). The deadline can be extended once by 48 hours.
- Release: a translator who cannot finish should release the task. A task whose deadline passes returns to the queue automatically.
- Review: the submitted translation is reviewed by a translation supervisor, who approves it or asks for changes. Supervisors may also assign or cancel tasks.
- Volunteer work is unpaid. It is recognised through the translator’s published credit, level, badges and certificates.
3. Translation requests (volunteer or paid)
- A writer can send a request to a specific translator, or a translator can make an offer on a published article. Each request states the language, the type (volunteer or paid), the budget for paid work and the delivery period in days.
- The party who receives the request accepts or declines it. A request can be cancelled only while it is waiting for approval.
- Paid requests: on approval, the full budget is held from the writer’s wallet, which must have a sufficient balance. When the translator delivers the translation, the budget is released: 80% to the translator and 20% to OneNation as platform commission.
- Founding translators are exempt from the commission for one year from the date they receive the title; during that period they receive 100% of the budget.
- Translators withdraw their available balance to a bank account in their name, from a minimum of 20 SAR. Withdrawal requests are reviewed before payment.
4. Deadlines and quality
- Translators commit to deliver within the deadline of the task or the delivery period of the request.
- Translations must be faithful to the meaning and tone of the original, complete, and in correct language. Use the shared glossary for consistent terminology.
- Do not submit raw machine translation as your own work, and do not add, remove or change the author’s ideas.
5. Confidentiality
Articles under review or scheduled for a future issue are not yet public. Translators and supervisors must not share them, or their translations, outside OneNation before publication. The same applies to messages exchanged about a task or request.
6. Credit and rights
Translations are published under the translator’s name, linked to the original article and its writer. Rights in the original and in the translation are described in our Intellectual property policy.
7. Problems and disputes
If a translation does not match the request, or a party does not respect this agreement, first try to resolve it by messaging each other on OneNation. If that fails, contact us: our team will review the case with both parties. We may suspend payments or accounts while we investigate suspected fraud or abuse.
8. Changes
We may update this agreement, including default deadlines and limits. Changes do not affect requests already approved, which continue under the terms in force when they were approved.
